Speaking at a news conference in Warsaw on Wednesday, anesthesiologist Dr. Konstanty Szułdrzyński said the programme aimed to address two fundamental challenges in the Polish healthcare system.
“The first is education and raising public awareness, as well as the awareness of healthcare professionals, about what sepsis is, how to quickly identify it, and how to provide proper treatment,” said Szułdrzyński, who heads the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care at the Central Clinical Hospital of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration in Warsaw.
“The second issue is to streamline the logistic system to ensure that sepsis patients promptly reach a facility where they can receive diagnosis and appropriate treatment," Szułdrzyński added.
Wednesday, September 13, was World Sepsis Day, an annual event that offers an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against this life-threatening reaction to an infection.
Sepsis is a medical emergency that requires rapid diagnosis and hospital treatment, and it is important that these are accessed as soon as possible.
